The Windows 10 consumer preview made its debut at Microsoft’s launch event on Wednesday 21 January 2015.
So, what do you need to know?
WhenWindows 10 will launch in late 2015.
The Price
Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for Windows
7 and Windows 8/8.1 users during the first year. However if you do not
upgrade in the first year you will be charged. Also before you upgrade
on day one of release, please contact us for advice on compatibility
with your existing third party programs, as they may not work with it.
If it isn’t broken;
The start menu has returned and it now incorporates live tiles and a power button. It can also be enlarged to full screen.
The charms menu has been updated to a notifications centre which includes device settings.
If it is broken;
The new Spartan internet browser will be
introduced across all Windows devices replacing Internet Explorer, the
most popular browser for downloading another browser.
Continuum
Microsoft want Windows to run everywhere;
such as phones, tablets, PCs, laptops, TVs and even VR Headsets. But it
won’t be the same form factor across all devices. A new service called
Continuum will change the UI depending on whether your using it as
tablet or PC etc.
Hey Cortana…
Cortana, Microsoft’s personal assistant,
which is already available on Windows phone devices, will now be
incorporated into windows 10 desktops/tablets. Cortana will be built
right into your start menu to answer your questions and prompt you with
information you may need as you use your device, she can also dictate
emails.
Games
Xbox is also coming to your Windows 10 PC,
not only can you capture your game play, you can stream and play xBox
One games right to your PC.
And Holograms
Yes, you read that correctly, Microsoft wants
us to navigate Windows with holograms by combining the Hololens, a new
device that will release this year, with augmented reality and gesture
control.
